Another was Walnut Grove Church, where he served two years. Another was Old Suwanee Baptist Church, where he served one year. Another was Rockbridge Baptist Church, where he served twelve years. [Others are listed in the "Facts" section.] - As a boy of 16 the young Archibald responded to a recruiting speech at a meeting and marched off to join the Confederate army. His mother upon hearing of this, rode after the column of soldiers on horseback begging him to return home. He served in the 24th Ga. Reg. Co. I in Wofford's brigade, Longstreet's Corps of Lee's army and saw much action. He was wounded in the leg during the second day of the battle of Gettysburg and captured by the Yankees. His brother Lemuel in the 11th Ga. Regt. was in Pickett's charge. While recovering in a prison hospital, the officer in charge taught him to read and write and impressed with the boy offered to take him home with him after the war and send him to college. He returned home on exchange in 1864 and married Jane E. Pugh, daughter of Martin Pugh. She died in 1870 and soon after he married Jennette Margaret Mauldin, daughter of Lemuel Mauldin and Polly Ann Pirkle. He was called to the Baptist ministry and pastored many small churches in Hall and Gwinnett Counties. He kept a well stocked library at his house in Lawrencville, Ga. and taught many in his community to read and write. - Archibald was a farmer, Missionary Baptist preacher, democrat, and member of The Fraternal Order of The Masons.
