Kindergarten Songs

My grandmother taught kindergarten at Country Day Kindergarten on Green Street in Warner Robins, Houston County, Georgia in the early 1970's. Here are some of the songs and rhymes her students used to sing...

My Friend Shadow
I have a friend that follows me and shadow is his name.
Sometimes he's short, sometimes he's tall, and sometimes we're the same.
When I think I'm all alone I'm not alone at all,
because I turn around and see he's leaning on the wall.
Even when I sit in school, and he is not around,
I know that when I'm heading home, I'll find him on the ground.

Witches
One little, two little, three little witches,
jumping over haystacks, jumping over ditches,
sliding down moon beams without any hitches,
Hey - Hi - Oh Halloween's here.

Two Little Mules
This little mule wants corn.
This little mule wants hay.
Give them all that they can eat,
and let them munch away.

Humpy Camel
There was an old camel.
He had a humpy hump.
A man tried to ride him,
and got a bumpy bump.

Little Turtle
Little turtle fast asleep.
Little turtle starts to creep.
Out he pokes his little head.
What a lovely world he said.

Six Little Ducks
Six little ducks, that I once knew.
Tall ones, fat ones, skinny ones, too.
But the one little duck with the feathers on his back,
he rules them all with his quack, quack, quack.
Down the river they would go with wibble wobble, wibble wobble, to and fro.
But the one little duck with the feathers on his back,
he rules them all with his quack, quack, quack.

Fishie Fishie
Fishie, fishie, in a brook.
Papa catch him with a hook.
Momma fry him in a pan.
Baby eat him like a man.
Yum, yum, yum.

Our Home
Our home is such a happy place,
We're busy all the day,
There's so much work for us to do,
So many games to play.
Our home is such a happy place,
The nicest place I know,
We work together every day,
To help to make it so.

The Train
This is the choo-choo train puffing down the track.
Now it's going forward,
now it's going back.
Now the bell is ringing,
no the whistle blows.
What a lot of noise it makes,
everywhere it goes!

I Had a Little Duck
I had a little duck,
his name was Tiny Tim.
I put him in the bathtub to teach him how to swim.
He drank all the water and ate all the soap.
The next day he died with a bubble in his throat.

Traffic Light Poem
Red Light, Red Light, what do you say?
I say stop! And stop right away.
Yellow Light, Yellow Light, what do you mean?
I mean wait! Till the light turns green.
Green Light, Green Light, what do you say?
I say go! And go right away.
Thank-you, thank-you, Red, Yellow, Green,
now I know what the traffic light means.

Black and Gold
Everything is black and gold,
Black and gold tonight;
Yellow pumpkins, yellow moon,
Yellow candlelight.
Jet-black cat with golden eyes,
Shadows black as ink;
Firelight blinking in the dark,
With a yellow blink.
Black and gold, black and gold,
Nothing in between.
When the world turns black and gold,
Then it's Halloween!

Two
Two eyes to see nice things to do,
Two lips to smile the whole day through.
Two ears to hear what others say,
Two hands to put the toys away.
A loving heart for work and play,
A tongue to speak sweet words each day.
Two feet that errands gladly run,
Make happy days for everyone.
