Since its creation in 1861, more than 3,400 Medals of Honor have been awarded to U.S. service personnel. The U.S. Army Military History Web site has created an online version of the U.S. Congress' compilation of Medal of Honor citations. These are organized by conflict, alphabetically by name, and contain details of each individual's organization, rank, and the cause for the award. A separate listing of World War II Black Medal of Honor recipients is also provided.
