"...WILLIAM GOGGANS, who died in this [Carroll] county at the age of 94. He was a soldier of the Revolution, and performed his duty gallantly. At the battle of King's Mountain, he received a severe wound. Some time after, he received two other very severe wounds, in engagements with the Tories. In all the relations of life he faithfully discharged his duty. He was an exemplary member of the Baptist Church."
